Thanks to Qov over at bo logh I've just found out about Earthlings a documentary of a gathering of Klingon speakers last year in Philadelphia. Alexandre O. Phillipe, the director, has another film that sounds intriguing, Chick Flick: The Miracle Mike Story about a headless chicken. Maybe a trip to Cannes is called for. Of course, being slashdotted can only help publicitywise.

I saw "Chick Flick" a few years ago. The chicken was a hit on the traveling circuit in a bygone era. It appears there was enough brain left after the poor fowl's beheading to keep it functioning, responding to food, etc. Nasty, though!

What Uncle Jim doesn't mention, is what the non-Klingon speakers in the crowd might have missed: not only is the film opening in Cannes, but they are flying me all the way out there from Vancouver. Movie star for a week.

I will report back.

P.S. Thanks for the reminder. 'utbej nIvnav.

And if you go to Cannes, you'll be able to see Fahrenheit 911 from Michael Moore before all its copies are destroyed in an unfortunate accident in the U.S. ;-).

Ratso: Long time no comment ...

Qov: I await news of your success ...

padawan: Diznee is too busy renewing patents for stolen cartoon rodents to mastermind destroying prints. They just won't advertise the flick and save money on the word of mouth.

No opportunity to see 9/11, as it was far too popular for tickets to filter down to the likes of me, but it seems to have been well received.

I spoke Klingon on national French TV the other night. I think the part they televised was an argument between me and another member of the KLI about why I was wearing a gold lamé glamour gown while he had been instructed to wear a vinyl costume and plastic forehead, but it was all Klingony, and then we sang Allouette in Klingon so the camera crew was happy.

The film, Earthlings is reasonably respectful of the language, and gets its laughs from the obsessions of the people who speak it. While, for the most part, we are not obsessive trekkies, we are people who have the concentration, drive and disregard for societal expectations, to learn and sustain a language in the absence of an immersion environment.

Qov-- Glad things went well in Cannes. I'll be trying to catch up with your blog this week.
