I hadn’t heard of or run across Da Shan (大山 aka Mark Rowswell) before, and that seems strange to me. He’s a non-Chinese ethnic Canadian who performs traditional Chinese comic dialog (相声 xiangsheng). He is almost unknown outside of China. [via Hanzi Smatter]
Posted by jim at December 6, 2004 07:55 AM | TrackBackI was sure I knew who you meant, but I didn't -- there's a second, much older non-Chinese Canadian (at UBC I think) I saw who does a kind of doggerel humorous storytelling in Mandarin accompanied by clicking spoons. Perhaps a teacher; you sort of hope that two of them didn't naturally come into existence independently.
